I hope you’ve all had a restful summer and are excited to get back to studying! The first thing you need to do as an A2 student is take stock and reflect on the type of student you have become and what you’d like to achieve. Think about the grade you need/want and how you’re going to get there.
I also hope you have been able to watch a few films over the summer break and don’t forget the A2 year is quite different to the AS, so the wider variety of films you can watch, the deeper your understanding of the topics will be.
This year we will be studying World Cinema, Documentary and a Close Study film which will be focused on Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece ‘Vertigo’. Alongside this, there is coursework which is a creative project and a research project.
You might have seen poster around this summer for this film:
It’s Spanish and has lots of elements of a Hitchcock film in it so to kick off your studies in a positive way, try and see this film.
Make sure you sign up to the blog and follow me. If you follow the blog you can get an email telling you every time it has been updated. Get into good study habits and check this all the time.
Finally, for those of you that are really keen to do well this year, there are lots of things you can be doing to make sure you're a great Film Studies student. My advice to you would be watch a large a variety of films as possible, read film magazines (available in the library) and pick up different Film Studies books from the JC library too (the more you read the more you will have to say in the exam!)
Good luck with the year!
